Dallas Cowboys State of the Union

(Disclaimer we are DIE HARD Cowboy Fans)

Me and a couple friends talk almost daily about how horrified we are with the Cowboys. Not just the players but the owner and coaches. At this point the whole dam organization. So to get some of this frustration out I decided to just do a post about it. I didn't think that idea out because I knew I wasn't going to be able to post. Without going on a rant about stuff I hate about the team. So I decided to get one of my friends (@Kataclysmic13) (You will be seeing more post from him) to write a post about how he feels about the team.

Today the Dallas Cowboys are a .500 team. 10 wins would be over achieving, losing 10 games would not shock me. We all know Jerry Jones is the main problem, but he is the owner. He has paid the cost to do as he pleases, so I will not waste words on him. (But Jerry if you read this, please just enjoy being filthy rich and hire a GM).

So besides that huge issue let us take a look at the next man in charge. The Head Coach, the only coach in history to ice his own kicker, in goal line situations runs from passing formations and passes from power formations (it's not deceptive when you do it constantly), the coach who allows the clock to run out when LOSING the game, and last but not least the guy who refused to run the ball as an Offensive Coordinator to get Wade Phillips fired then was quoted as saying "you have to run the ball to win games in the NFL" after he was promoted. Dallas Cowboys fans your Head Coach Jason Garrett.

But Jerry Jones doesn't really like Jason Garrett either at this point, that's why no one on the Cowboys staff knows who will be calling offensive plays. Will it be the bland, I'm going to out think everyone so much, I out think myself, because they know I am trying to out think them Garrett. Or will Bill Callahan, who has called plays for both playoff and super bowl teams, but gosh his offensive line coaching stinks, be the man. No one knows.

Now let’s take a quick glance at the defensive staff. Monty Kiffin. Like my dad you may be thinking he is a brand name, he will do good. Not so fast my friend let us take a look at the ShEagles for just a moment. The ShEagles two years ago were a zone defensive scheme team. That went out and got man corners (Nhamdi and DRC) to play zone. It was a disaster with Outkast's "BoB" playing in the background. They were faded up, routed up, in every situation. Two good man corners were useless in zone. Fast forward one year let’s look at Dallas (we are now one year in the past for those who have been lost in space). One year ago Dallas paid 50 million for Carr (man corner) and traded a first and a second round pick to get Claiborne (man corner); now Dallas is switching to a Cover 2 scheme. Let’s pray we do not repeat the defensive output of the ShEagles over the last two years. That is problem one. Problem 2 is with the release of Sensabaugh; Dallas does not have an average safety on the team. The two most important pieces in a Cover 2 scheme behind the middle linebacker. On to Problem 3 the ineffectiveness of the Cover 2 scheme, when facing the read option IE: RG3 and Vick. Let’s break it down like a fraction. Kiffin coached at USC, USC has superior talent then Oregon. Oregon ran up and down the field on USC at will every time they played with Kiffin at the helm. And guess whose coaching the ShEagles now, Chip Kelley the creator of Oregon's "Quack Attack".

Also let’s not mention Spencer will be a 250 pound DE and Demarcus Ware, who has battled through a few injuries these past couple of years, will have to be even more physical on every play now with the position switch. The Cowboys are operating on a day to day basis. There is no long term plan. Jerry wakes up puts the team on one direction, takes a nap, wakes up and changes course. The team is at a crossroads with two options. Option one would be blow up the team. Everyone, coaches and players and honestly rebuild from the ground up. There is a nucleus to keep, all those young players under 25 that were drafted the last three years. Let Romo go, let Ware go for a ransom, and rebuild to be great again. Option two and what the Cowboys are in the process of doing. Re-sign Romo, commit to this team, and stay on the fringe of .500 for a few more years. There is no choice three, unless someone has the heart to kidnap Jerry, hold him for ransom until Stephen Jones hires a GM. If your heart doesn't beat like that in the words of Roger GODdell "With the 16th pick in the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Draft the Cowboys select..." (@Kataclysmic13)
